Hollywood Arts is open Monday through Friday 12- 7 pm. Classes are designed to help high-risk young people move into independent lives by immersing them in creative-based learning as a way to build self-esteem and help promote thinking and job-readiness skills.

The Hollywood Arts’ Center is open for young people to attend art, music and media classes 9-week quarter. These classes have open enrollment and are ongoing. Our classes focus on: (1) thinking skills, (2) self-expression, and (3) skills-based knowledge.

WHAT WE OFFER:

1. Transition to College
Active students who attend 3 classes a week for one semester or more may be eligible for the Transition to College program. This program provides assistance with college paperwork including placement exams, counseling appointments, class schedules, and financial aid. Hollywood Arts will also provide scholarships to eligible students to attend community college.

2. GED Prep Course
All young people may participate in the GED Prep Course program. Students interested in completing their GED may take weekly practice tests and may additionally be eligible to work with a tutor specifically in areas where they need improvement.

3. Job-Readiness Assistance
The Job-Readiness program includes classes in basic computer skills and job-readiness including interview techniques, financial literacy, stress and anger management and relapse prevention as well as post-hire support groups. The Job-Readiness program is available to all students who have attended 3 to 6 months of art and music-based classes at Hollywood Arts and, through attendance in these classes, have shown discipline and self-investment.

4. Work-Based Mentorship Program
Active students who attend 3 classes a week for 6 months or more may be eligible for our Work-Based Mentorship program which matches students with a creative professional in their field of interest. Mentors and students meet once a week to work on individual projects. Current mentors include music, interior design, and screenplay writing.

5. Project-Based Classes
Students may elect to participate in project-based learning at Hollywood Arts. Project-Based learning involves building teams to work on a specific project for the duration of one semester or 10 weeks. Projects include the production of CDs or e-zines.

6. Studio and Performing Arts Classes
Students may attend classes in one of four program areas: Urban Arts (writing, fashion, photography, drawing); Entertainment Arts (acting, screenplay writing); Music or Electronic Arts (graphics). Classes are offered 5 days a week at no cost to young people. Students must enroll in classes during the registration period.
