Hollywood Arts: Happy Holidays from all the Elves!
January 2007

Dear Friend of Hollywood Arts,

My name is Elizabeth Hirsch and I am on the Board of Directors for Hollywood Arts. I have always been drawn to self-expression and the arts, and have deep sympathy for young people who are trying to find themselves.

Hollywood Arts blends creativity, soul searching, and discipline to guide homeless teens into lives of possibility, and offers me a meaningful role in their transformation from emptiness to self-realization.

Hollywood Arts blends creativity, soul searching, and discipline to guide homeless teens into lives of possibility, and offers me a meaningful role in their transformation from emptiness to self-realization.

Dylan's practical skills, commitment and vision, along with her ability to make things happen inspired me to become a board member of Hollywood Arts.

It's a privilege to support the mission of Hollywood Arts. As a donor, I thank you Dylan, for giving me an opportunity to be my best self by supporting Hollywood Arts. Your sensitivity and ability to connect with homeless youth is a rare gift.

Hollywood Arts is proud to honor video game pioneer Tommy Tallarico in the first annual Dream Awards!

Internationally recognized, Tallarico broke new ground 18 years ago when he envisioned introducing scored music to video games, taking games from the "bleeps" to elaborately choreographed audio soundscapes.

Says Tallarico: "I am honored to have been chosen by Hollywood Arts. I understand how important their work is with homeless youth. This event is also a great opportunity for my industry to give back as well as showcase the creativity of and value in video gaming.” Read the press release.

Stay tuned for next month's issue for more stories on why Hollywood Arts loves video games!

    Universal Logo

Do wishes on stars really come true? We think so! Hollywood Arts is proud to thank the Discover a Star foundation- a Universal Studios Hollywood Charity- for their support of the Urban Arts program.

Our upcoming Urban Arts class will focus on drawing as the basis for many creative activities and careers and will be lead by artist Andy Clark.

Hollywood Arts couldn't be happier to welcome Andy to our teaching roster! While Andy doesn't live under the sea, he is probably best known for his aquatic renderings of the Krusty Krab and Pineapples Under the Sea as a background designer for SpongeBob SquarePants!

Andrew Lazar is a film producer and a story seeker. He has produced over 18 films including Space Cowboys and Cats and Dogs.

After learning about Hollywood Arts, he was moved to turn his talent for telling stories into an opportunity to help homeless youth change their lives.

Lazar wrote the course outline and lead a six-week class teaching Hollywood Arts' students how to turn their creative ideas into movie pitches. Some of the students chose to tell their own life stories while others let their imaginations lead them into new territories.

Lazar was so impressed with the students (which a reporter said, "felt just like a college class") that he is now working on developing an entertainment-industry internship program for Hollywood Arts.
