Dear Friend of Hollywood Arts,
td>
Meet Quadiyr
Wilson. A year ago, Q was homeless, now he
attends LACC with the goal of transferring to
UCLA, and works full time for Comcast
Entertainment Group in the Media Lab.
Just shy of two years in our own
facility, we have this and other exciting
news to report.
We learn every day from our students how to
make our classes better for them and we move
further ahead in reaching our own goals of
providing a solution to helping homeless
youth live independent lives.
Please read on to learn how you can help
invest in
changing the lives of homeless youth and have
fun at the same time!
Huffington Post- Dylan Kendall Debunks the "Basic Needs" Myth
I've met hundreds of homeless young people
who steal groceries and sleep in abandoned
buildings to survive. A patchwork but
functional system exists to meet their "basic
needs" -- to get them shelter and food.
But my work has led me to question whether
our current understanding of "basic needs"
does little more than sustain the problem of
homelessness, rather than solve it by
creating empowered individuals capable of
managing their own lives.
