Greetings from HA's New Executive Director
April 2010

Dear Friend of Hollywood Arts,

Spring is a time for rebirth and renewal. I humbly took on the position of Executive Director of Hollywood Arts at the beginning of last month after the departure of Hollywood Arts visionary and founder, Dylan Kendall. For almost two years now, I've been part of the HA community as a volunteer and mentor. As I take on this new role, I have been met with such warm welcomes by so many Hollywood Arts supporters. I look forward to meeting you all.

I am constantly amazed and impressed with the dedication and hard work exhibited by our students, especially when I think about the fact that many of them walk into the center each day after spending the nights on the streets or in a shelter. They want to change their circumstances. After overcoming obstacles that are unimaginable to most, they need the support of this organization to awaken their dreams.

Eight of our students are now enrolled in local colleges, and several more were placed in internships with corporate partners. Their motivation is contagious. We expect to see several more students enrolling in the Fall, and are excited to continue to build our Job Readiness program.

We have outgrown our current learning center, and are looking to expand that space later this year. Our new space will have additional classrooms, private mentoring areas, and more on-site office space.

Please let me know if you are able to mentor or offer an internship. Your ongoing support is vital as we stay engaged in the lives of these young people.

Thank you for your continued partnership,

Rachel Romanski

On March 16, Carrie Dieterle, Director of Human Resouces at Insomniac Games shared resume and job search strategies with our students. Carrie talked with the students about resume do's and don'ts and also shared ways to market oneself beyond their resume.

Workshops like these are invaluable for our students as they pursue the path to self-sufficiency.

    Thank you, Carrie!

A huge thank you to AT&T for their continued support of Hollywood Arts! There are many ways to help a young person learn important computer skills. AT&T understands that using the arts to teach young people to become digitally comfortable is a smart way to educate!
